Former Buchanan co-chair supports 'populist reformer' in Reform primary
Last night, Pat Buchanan's former presidential campaign co-chair Lenora B. Fulani told WorldNetDaily she would back John Hagelin for the Reform Party's nomination for president.
Fulani withdrew her endorsement of Pat Buchanan's candidacy last week, she says, because of Buchanan's attempt to "turn the party into a party of and for social conservatives."
"John Hagelin supports the party's program of political and governmental reform and he supports the integrity of the Reform Party as a populist, grassroots, democratic, and inclusive independent organization," Fulani said.
"The Reform Party presidential primary is now a referendum, not simply on who our nominee will be, but what the political character of the party will be," she added.
Hagelin, a physicist from Fairfield, Iowa, has been the Natural Law Party's presidential hopeful and a long-time political activist.
"I've endorsed John Hagelin because he wants to keep the party as it was originally engineered by Ross Perot and many others," said Fulani, "-- a populist party that is inclusive, non-ideological and pro-reform."
Fulani says she will concentrate her efforts on Hagelin's behalf on New York State, which has a sizable portion of the party's national membership.
"New York is by far the largest state party affiliate in national Reform and could be an important factor in the outcome of the primary," she said.
