INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF NATURAL LAW PARTY LEADERS MEETS IN SANTIAGO: WILL OFFER SOLUTIONS TO HEADS OF STATE AT SUMMIT

SANTIAGO, CHILE--While heads of state are meeting in Santiago to grapple with chronic regional problems, leaders of a new political party will be right next door offering them solutions. This new party is the Natural Law Party, now organized in over 60 countries.

Natural Law Party delegations from 12 North and South American countries will be meeting in Santiago from April 15 to 17. Participating countries include the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and Paraguay.

The U.S. Natural Law Party is the fastest growing political party in America. Founded in 1992, the Party ran more than 400 candidates on the ballot in 48 states in 1996, and received over 2 million votes nationwide. Dr. Mike Tompkins, vice presidential candidate of the U.S. Natural Law Party in the 1992 and 1996 elections, will lead the American delegation.

"A growing number of issues--environmental, economic, and social--are global, and only a political party whose principles and programs cross national boundaries can solve them," Dr. Tompkins says.

"Up to now, governments have tried to solve problems from the outside in--by applying money and other external resources," Dr. Tompkins says. "What we need is to solve problems from the inside out--by applying our most precious resource, the unlimited creativity and intelligence of our citizens.

Principles shared by all Natural Law Parties include:

• Proven Solutions--scientifically proven solutions exist to all social problems, but are being ignored, often for purely political reasons.
• Preventive Government--preventive solutions to crime, health care, and other costly social problems are often the most humane and cost-effective.
• Conflict-Free Politics--government should enlist the talents and abilities of the most capable people, regardless of political party, in order to put the best minds to work for the benefit of the nation.

"These principles have been translated into detailed solutions applicable to all areas of local, national, and global life, including preventive medicine, renewable energy, organic agriculture, and education for higher consciousness," Dr. Tompkins says. "If the heads of state now gathered in Santiago adopt our principles and programs, their governments will soon provide a better quality of life for everyone, and the world will be a much safer, healthier place."
 
U.S. NATURAL LAW PARTY LEADS EFFORT FOR MEANINGFUL POLITICAL REFORM IN THE UNITED STATES

According to Dr. Tompkins, the United States, while claiming to be a paragon of democratic principles, is in fact the world's most restrictive democracy in terms of access to the ballot, the media, and political debates.

"In the U.S., the Natural Law Party has taken the lead in forming a new organization to promote real reform of the American political process. It's called the Fair Elections Commission," Dr. Tompkins says. "We will use court challenges, ballot referenda, and public debate to break the 'duopoly' of the Democratic and Republican parties. The national leaders of the Reform, Libertarian, and Green parties, along with major political independents and some forward-looking members of the Democratic and Republican parties, have joined the Natural Law Party in forming the Fair Elections Commission."
 
U.S. NATURAL LAW PARTY TO CONTEST 1998 ELECTIONS

The U.S. Natural Law Party is currently building for the Year 2000 election. In the off-year 1998 election, it will be running about 250 candidates--45 in California alone--on the ballot in at least 45 states.
